A Short History of Our Heritage
When we open our hearts to the Word of God, He will speak to us in a specific way. That happens when we are gathered together as the church. The job of a pastor is to preach and teach the Word of God. Paul wrote to the young pastor Timothy, “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching” (2 Timothy 4:2). Preaching is God’s primary way of reaching lost people and that is the foundation of this church, preaching God’s Word to a lost world.
Yet there are churches today that don’t give place to the Word of God. For them, it is more about music and drama and skits and interpretive dance and clips from movies. Families of Faith wants to give something that can’t be found anywhere else. We want to give the Word of God. That is what the world needs to hear. That is what you need to hear. That is what we should be longing to hear: the Word of God.
FOFC was founded as a mission of the First Southern Baptist Church of Joliet in 1963. The church was started in what was formerly a chicken coop and feed store on Fryer St.
In 2001, Families of Faith Church purchased property on Rt. 6 and began a building program. God brought us through many difficult trials that challenged our faith to its core. We realized that God was more interested in our character than anything we could build for Him. As we were molded to be more like Him, we saw God do things that only He could have done. Our lives were changed, as He took a remnant of people and put us on mission with Him.
As ministries at FOFC have grown, we have seen people saved and lives transformed in every area! More people have heard about the saving grace of Jesus than ever before! Read more about our history in the slides below.
